The Advantages of Riding a Bus

Buses, from a coach bus to a motorcoach to an airport shuttle, are widespread and practical vehicles for getting around. Many millions of Americans ride buses every year, and charter bus rental is a fine idea for groups of tourists who want to see the local sights. Many charter bus lines can be found across the United States, and a coach bus may deliver groups of people to a sports stadium and back. A coach bus may also be good for the environment and traffic alike, and a coach bus might have more features on board than a first-time rider might expect. A coach bus may help play a part in a local tourism-based economy, or transport commuters across a city.

On Buses

The very earliest buses were horse-drawn models used in England in the 1820s, and by the 1830s, steam-powered models could be found across England. Over the decades, buses became the diesel-powered vehicles known today, and they have become fuel-efficient means of transporting large groups of people. A single bus can carry around 55 passengers on average, and this means that just as many cars are being taken off the road. This helps to clear up congestion on roads, and this also greatly cuts back on air pollution. This is because buses tend to rank among the most fuel-efficient vehicles in operation in the United States today. A motorcoach may deliver nearly 206.6 passenger miles per gallon of fuel, which compares favorably to an average car’s 27.2 passenger miles per gallon. What is more, a coach bus will emit less carbon dioxide per passenger mile than any other ground vehicle. There is a widespread “go green” initiative that calls for reduced air pollution, and buses can contribute greatly to that if they are carrying enough passengers. This adds up quickly; today, motorcoaches account for 751,000,000 passenger trips taken every year in the United States.

Buses for Business or Leisure

One major use for buses is a local community’s tourism industry. Around the world, many local economies are based largely on tourism, and a bus is a fine way to provide for that. Tourists don’t typically bring their own transportation with them, so their land-based travel is often done with a coach bus. These buses can deliver a large group of tourists to a local community for the night, and these tourists will spend money locally on lodgings, food, shopping, and more. A single, full bus of tourists may infuse over $11,000 into a local economy this way just for one overnight visit, making them and excellent investment. Tourists are likely to enjoy their trip, as modern buses offer many features. A quality bus today can offer WiFi, electronic device plug-in ports, comfortable and padded seats, heating and air conditioning, and even electronic screens and a bathroom. These are similar features to what might be found on a commercial airplane, but buses may be more convenient to charter and ride.

Buses are also very useful for those who need to commute to and from a city. Millions of rural Americans need a way to get to cities, and trains and planes tend to not go where they need to visit. Instead, nearly 14 million rural Americans today make use of buses for their travel needs. Some business professionals today, especially women, choose buses as a way to get around in a city, and these buses may be a convenient place to catch up on work on the way. In other cases, certain establishments may have their own bus services. A church or synagogue, or any other house of worship, may offer bus rides for members. This is often the best option for church or synagogue attendants who do not have their own transportation, and these small buses can go along a pre-determined route to pick up anyone who needs them.

Airports offer similar services. A person flying out of the country for a month would not want to drive their own car to the airport and leave it there. Rather, this plane passenger can schedule an airport shuttle bus to collect them, and the same can be done to get back home once the person’s flight arrives at the airport.
